High School Roster Announced

The North Hunterdon Ice Hockey Club comprised of high school students that attend North Hunterdon High School have announced their roster for the 2008-09 season.

Returning junior Eric Sydow (5’10”, 200lb) and sophomore Kyle Fischbach (5’7”, 118lb) will again handle the goaltending chores this season. Last year the duo combined for eleven wins and four shut outs.

Returning junior Mark Schwanda (6’3”, 183 lb) will anchor a young but experienced defensive corps which features three returning sophomores Meaghan Gallagher (5’2”, 125 lb), Taylor Lee (5’8”, 140lb) and Daniel Seminara (5’9”, 145lb). Freshman John Buckhout and Brian Clancey will also take shifts on the blue line for the Lions.

The forward lines were hit hardest by graduation but still return some solid players in juniors Greg Garcia (5’11”, 210lb), Jordan Gianos (5’8”, 155lb), Casey Lotz (5’11”, 145lb), Ben Marchesini (5’10”, 145lb), Mark Warner (5’11, 175lb) and sophomore Wyatt Kunzman (5’7”, 175lb). The Lions also picked up new comers Greg Mustillo, the team’s only senior, sophomore Alec Schleicher (5’8” 150 lb) and freshman Zach Bennedsen (5’3”, 100lb) and Jimmy Pytell. Kunzman, Schleicher and Mustillo are expected to center the top three lines this season.

Bennedsen, Fischbach, Schleicher, Schwanda and Sydow also play for the New Jersey Renegades Hockey Club while Gallagher and Kunzman also play for the New Jersey Rockets.

The Lions will compete in the Cross County Junior Varsity Ice Hockey League and play parent run teams from Voorhees, Somerville, Hunterdon Central plus other youth travel teams. Additionally, they will play about ten non-league games against other high school squads including Blair Academy, Germantown Academy (PA), Columbia Prep (NY) and St. Joseph by-the-Sea (NY). Last year the Lions went 11-4-1 on the season and were undefeated in JV league play.

The North Hunterdon Ice Hockey Club is not supported or affiliated in any way with the North Hunterdon-Voorhees Regional High School District. (but it ought to be!)
