North Drops Somerville, Improves Record To 12-2February 8th, 2009; by Jim Schwanda
The North Hunterdon Ice Hockey Club won both games this weekend,
defeating the Hatfield Ice Hawks 5-3 Saturday and Somerville
High School 6-3 on Sunday to improve their record to 12-2 in their
second season.
Alec Schleicher had two goals and two assists, Mark Schwanda had
two goals and one assist while Ben Marchesini added a goal and two
assists with Wyatt Kunzman also scoring. Schwanda's second goal
came with North killing a penalty and Kunzman's goal came with
two North skaters in the box as he skated through the Pioneers
defense and blasted a shot over the goalie's glove hand.
The North penalty killing unit, led by Jordan Gionas who provide
tenacious forechecking, killed two five on three Somerville power plays
in the second period. North also capitalized on two power plays with
Schleicher and Schwanda each getting a power play goal.
On Saturday Wyatt Kunzman led the Lions with two goals while Jimmy
Pytell, Greg Garcia and Mark Schwanda also scored.
North has now won 12 games, one more than their inaugural season
last year where they posted a 11-4-1 record.
Tomorrow afternoon North tries to win their 13th game of the season against
Voorhees at Aspen Ice in Flemington at
